I went to visit this captain and his wife on 14 July 2013 after the Sea Sunday service.
They are Mikhail Kravtsov and his wife Valentina. He is 54 years old, captain of L Endevor, was admitted into Entabeni hospital on 14 June 2013 with a stroke. His wife has flown in on 8 July.
They will be flying back to Russian on 28 July. I went to see if Valentina needs to say anything to the hospital staff or needs any other help. She said the ship owner took care of all their financial needs, has helped them enormously by paying for her hotel, her transport to and from the hospital and for any shopping needs. She was in need of nothing. The agent for the owner in Durban is Shipmed Inc.
She has also thanked the chaplains for their regular visits. She said the hospital has been most accommodating in letting her stay by her husband’s bedside any time she wants to including night times. She was also very thankful to the government of RSA for granting her the visa on a very short notice, the Ministry of Foreign affairs of Russia has interceded for her in that. She is planning to write an official thank you to the government of South Africa later when she returns home.
At home her two young children are now being looked after by relatives.
