On 18 March, the founding day of the Sailor’s Society, branches in South Africa will be celebrating the 200 year anniversary with visiting seafarers.

In Durban, the festivities will be taking place at the Seafarers’ Mission in the Port of Durban.  There will also be celebration in Cape Town and in Richard’s Bay.

Sailors’ Society is an international Christian charity working in ports across the world. Our chaplains help seafarers and their families, from all faiths and none, with welfare and practical support.

  • We visit ships in ports and talk with seafarers separated from home for up to a year at a time;
  • we help seafarers get in touch with much missed loved ones and access medical treatment;
  • we liaise with frightened families when seafarers are kidnapped by pirates or imprisoned, mostly through no fault of their own;
  • and we build homes and schools and provide grants to bring hope and security to seafaring communities.

The Sailors Society SA will join many ports in the world to celebrate this milestone of the Society on 18 March 2018.
