This statement is specific to the Port of Durban and circumstances maybe different in other Ports.

The Durban Port Welfare Committee (DPWC) notes that the Coronavirus outbreak is causing considerable distress to seafarers who are concerned for their personal health as well as that of their families back home. Misinformation on Social Media is adding to this anxiety. Our response as a Port Welfare Committee is to care for the wellbeing of seafarers in the Port of Durban and to provide information to welfare service providers.

At a meeting held on 4 February 2020 the DPWC noted that the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has put responsible plans in place to mitigate the risks. Welfare Service Providers should continue to monitor the guidance and instructions from TNPA.
